Chris Tarpening

Videographer/Editor/Live Truck Operator/Field Producer

Born outside of Tokyo Japan to Parents Dick and Carol Tarpening. I grew up in a Military family and eventually entered the Military himself at the age of 20.

Through grade school and high school was most active in Music. Performed in the 1984 Olympics honor High School regiment and performed the Tournament of Roses parade Honor Marching band. Joined the US Air Force in in June 1990 and cont’d playing music in Drum and bugle corps at basic training and trade school. After getting assignment in Charleston South Carolina also was on details of military funerals where I would perform Taps for our fallen Veterans.

It wasn’t until 1998 and by chance I got into news. Interned for several weeks and saw things i never thought I would see. Seeing through the lens and telling people’s stories brought my interests higher.

In the beginning when I went to the movies I was looking at camera angles more than figuring out plots. How did the DP do that was a lot of my questions. Once I learned the basics I kept on wanting to learn more. Finally after 4 years in a small market I moved on to work in San Diego. It was a nice move as I got to work with seasoned reporters and photographers for 5 years and learn and absorb what they had to teach when out in the field. Near the end of my 5 years there I wanted to learn more so I started studying at a school in Oceaneering. I almost completed to the school in underwater diving and filming till I found out my neck had serious problems and the scary part of deep water diving is decompression and loss of consciousness for myself. So I ended my journey there to be a deep water videographer for filming under the glaciers and the underwater surfaces yet to be explored.
So I returned to the Desert of the Coachella Valley. To once again be a videographer telling more stories.

In my years I have been nominated for several Emmy’s. I have won 3 Emmy’s and have been part of many others that have gone on for wins as well.

I love being behind the Lens. Listening to the sounds and capturing moments. Besides capturing video for news all these 22 years in the business now I keep my sanity by escaping to solitude. Camping, hiking, the ocean and being on water calms my soul. If there’s beauty to be captured everyone know’s Tarps capturing that. Oh yeah Everyone calls me Tarp. I love colors the more vibrant the better.

Sunsets and sunrises are mostly the time I love to capture and there’s animals and rural communities away from city life that makes me at peace as well.

Craig Marks

Composer / Producer / Sound Supervisor / Re-Recording Mixer

On any given day, award winning composer Craig Marks can be found hard at work in the studio coaxing rhythm and melody from an extensive array of “instruments” – many bought or found, some built specifically for projects by Marks himself.  Buzz saws, antenna arrays, and a horrifically broken dishwasher have all found their places in his scores.  “There’s music in everything,” Marks says, “the trick is matching tonality and emotion.”

Best known for his “saber rattling gladiator music” that defined Food Network’s IRON CHEF AMERICA properties [Detroit Free Press] and his “brilliant” theme music for A&E’s Emmy award winning series INTERVENTION [BlogCritics Magazine], Marks has composed for feature films, network and cable television, games, and commercials as well as the concert hall.
